Authoritarian motivation – the new era of Coaches.

We have been raised to obey authority. From childhood, we have learned to listen and follow others. Whether it was a parent, a caregiver, a priest, or a teacher. We were always praised for doing as we were told. Punishment awaited us for not following orders or thinking too much for ourselves.

This methodology developed in us an exemplary follower of orders, whose goal is to please others. Society needed such members so that the machinery could function as if well-oiled. Each person had their own role in such a system and the condition was unwavering obedience to orders for a corresponding salary.

But times changed and suddenly many of us found ourselves in the role of either an entrepreneur or a freelancer, where there was no one to command or tell us what needed to be done. The habitual obedience to orders was replaced by independent thinking and decision-making.

Not only that, now each of us had to motivate ourselves to work. Having had to do as we were told since childhood, it is difficult to suddenly change this habitual behavior. Many found themselves having difficulty motivating themselves to work under this avalanche of growing obligations.

But with entrepreneurship came new motivation trends, where people were taught to create their own development plans and action plans. Great motivational trainers shouted from the stage that we can handle forcing ourselves and the crowd roared with great euphoria. And for a while it even worked. Endless todo lists, promises and agreements with ourselves were fulfilled and projects were completed.

But the strength of the young entrepreneur waned, a void arose inside, and many even quit with burnout. I was one of those who was in a coma for six months due to burnout. Some went back to work. Going to work seemed like child’s play next to entrepreneurship.

Until a new wave came along that promised everyone that life would be easier. There was no need for schedules or action plans anymore because now everything was just in the flow! You only had to do the things you liked or that came to mind at the time. There was someone for every job who would happily do it.

The golden age of female energy began, which even men quickly agreed to. For a while, it was even great to go along like this and hang out in the flow. But it soon became clear that most of the work would go undone and things would not be finished on time. Someone had to do those unpleasant tasks eventually.

And then COACHING came to the rescue! Suddenly, we have an authority figure back in our lives who tells us what to do. And it’s such a nice nostalgic feeling when someone encourages, praises or inspires you again. We are even willing to pay this person to order us around. And once again, all the work flies by in our hands. We are productive and motivated to do even the things we don’t like about our work.

All this is thanks to the old nostalgic program from our early childhood that taught us to listen to the word of authority. This program gets us out of bed earlier in the morning, makes us exercise, and achieve everything we have dreamed of. A good coach is like the good old-school teacher who gave you the most homework. But at least now you know that he demands all this for your own good.
