In my work I keep meeting people whose lives look perfectly fine from the outside. The job is going well. The relationship is there. The bills are paid, the calendar is full. And yet, when I ask one simple question – when did you last feel truly good in your own body? – the room goes quiet.
That silence says more than any explanation. The body is tense. The soul is tired. Pleasure has become a rare guest that nobody really expects anymore.
If you recognise yourself here, this article is for you. Not to convince you of anything, but so that you know: there is a way out of this place. And sometimes what it takes is stepping outside your everyday life for a little while.
Why we lose connection with our bodies
Modern life is built around the head. We think, plan, analyse, check our phones and solve problems from morning to night. The body becomes something that simply has to keep going – a vehicle that carries the head from one meeting to the next.
But the body doesn’t forget. Every suppressed feeling, every year lived under pressure, every time we said “yes” while something inside said “no” – it stays somewhere. In the shoulders. In the jaw. In the belly. In the pelvis. And one day you notice that you no longer feel great joy, but you don’t feel great pain either. Everything is just… grey and numb.
For years I have worked with the body, touch and awareness across Europe. The United States and Asia, and I have seen the same pattern repeat regardless of country, age or profession. The good news is that the body also remembers the way back. It simply needs a safe space, time and the right practices for recovery.
Why Bali – and why February?
Bali is not a random choice. I have taught and led retreats there many times, and every time I feel the same thing: this island is both holding and honest. Many people describe Bali’s energy as feminine and supportive, but Bali is also a mirror – it shows you exactly the places you have learned to avoid.
That is what makes it the ideal place for real change, rather than yet another inspiring holiday that fades on your first day back at work.
And February? If you live anywhere in the north of Europe, you know exactly what this month does to you. Darkness, cold, and a tiredness that has been building since November. This is the moment when your body and nervous system most need warmth, light and recovery. The retreat ends on 14 February, Valentine’s Day – and for me that is symbolic. Before you can truly love someone else, it’s worth meeting yourself again.
What actually happens at the retreat
Let me be honest from the start: this retreat is not a place where you get “fixed”. You are not broken. It is a space where you remember who you are when you are present in your body.
Over six days, we move through these practices:
- Body-awareness exercises and movement – so the body can start breathing again and tension can release naturally, not by force.
- Breathwork and nervous system regulation – simple but powerful techniques you can use to shift your own state long after the retreat, in your everyday life.
- Conscious touch and presence practice – we learn to give and receive touch with respect, presence and safety. For many people this is the deepest part of the retreat.
- Sharing circles and integration – an experience only becomes real change once it has been felt through and put into words.
- Silence, nature and time for yourself – because sometimes the most important things happen when nobody is guiding you and you simply are.
The days are designed so that intensity and rest alternate. You don’t have to get anywhere. Your only task is to be present.
Safety and boundaries are the foundation, not an extra
If the word “tantra” makes you uneasy, that is completely understandable. There are many misconceptions around it. In our work with Bella, the most important principle is simple: you always decide for yourself what you take part in and how far you go.
Everything happens with clear agreements, voluntary participation and deep respect for each participant’s personal space. We learn what many of us were never taught – how to feel our boundaries, how to express them and how to honour them in others. That skill transforms not only intimacy, but every relationship in your life.
Who this retreat is for – and who it isn’t for
This retreat is for you if:
- you feel you live too much in your head and too little in your body;
- you are burned out or feel your energy is running on empty;
- your relationship has reached a dead end, or sexual and emotional connection has faded;
- you long for more presence, pleasure and clarity;
- you are ready to truly experience, not just understand.
No previous experience with yoga, tantra or bodywork is needed. All that matters is a willingness to be honest and present.
This retreat is not for you if you are looking for a quick fix without your own participation, or if you are in an acute crisis that needs the support of a doctor or psychotherapist. A retreat does not replace treatment – it is a deep experience that supports your journey.
What people take home with them
Participants from previous retreats most often talk about four things: a deeper calm in the body, a better relationship with their own boundaries and needs, clarity about their relationships and direction in life, and a reawakened sense of vitality and pleasure.
One piece of feedback I hear again and again goes like this:
“I didn’t know how tense my body really was until it finally relaxed.”
For me, that sentence sums up the whole retreat. We get so used to our tension that we think it’s normal. Only when it leaves do we realise how much strength it was taking from us.
Who we are
I am Igor Earthchild – a tantra teacher, love coach and relationship healing practitioner. I am based in Finland and Estonia, but I teach, facilitate workshops and organise festivals across Europe and Asia. I produced the documentary The Secret of Tantra (2017), have created a number of online courses at www.superlover.me , and been a co-organizer of the Estonian Tantra Festival.
Bella Skalkina is my partner in this work. Together we created the brand learn2touch.com and this retreat, drawing on years of experience with body, touch and awareness work. Bella has a therapy studio ANAHATA in Helsinki. She is also a main organizer of Tantra Festival in Estonia.
Our goal is not to make you dependent on a teacher, but to give you tools you can keep using long after you are back home.
